Noodles came on our vacation with us as a stand-in for those who could not go. And then he stole the show.
As the last post of my leadership lessons from history, I want to emphasize something that’s right on my Home page. I want to help you reconnect to your sense of humor.
All the big guns agree: a sense of humor is an essential element for business and in life. Here’s the proof:
- 10 Reasons Why Humor is the Key to Success at Work by Forbes
- Humor is Serious Business by the Stanford Graduate School of Business
- Why a Sense of Humor is Vital to Your Success by Inc.
- Leading With Humor by the Harvard Business Review
Suffice it to say, after reading those articles, I was convinced.
As if I needed those articles!
Noodles the Travelling Companion
Noodles is light, small, and quiet, AKA the perfect travelling companion. He could (and did!) fit anywhere.
Noodles quickly got a flavor for travelling internationally, so when the opportunity arose to christen him in Les Baux, France (see last weeks post), we took it.
In the baptismal font of an 11th century church, we named him Noodles, The International Sloth of Mystery.
He proved to be a good sloth, praying in churches, staying silent in the Sistine Chapel and even censoring the David so children could see the photo.
Noodles Knows How to Relax
Noodles knows that for him to be the best sloth he can be, he has to learn how to relax and really get his brain to unwind.
This was not a problem for him. He is, after all, a sloth!
He pondered deep thoughts in a deck chair, and enjoyed the wine in
Malaga, Spain immensely.
In fact, there wasn’t anything that he wasn’t willing to try, a great trait when on vacation!
All in all, we had a great time, and it was made better by our silent traveling companion.
He wants me to tell all of you that you, too, need to learn to relax and part of that is embracing the ridiculous sometimes.
Yes, we might have gotten a few strange looks, but every tour guide we had took their own selfie with Noodles in the photo.
He has friends around the world now! And his own Facebook page.
Check him out at International Sloth of Mystery.
Leaving you with this from the lighter side: how much lighter can you be? We took pictures around the globe with a stuffed sloth!
